Making Keto Calzones with the NGB Pizza Mix

The great thing about our keto mixes is that they are extremely versatile and make any recipe especially quick and easy.

Our lovely new high protein Pizza Mix is no exception, it tastes great and can be made into so many mouth-watering recipes for you to enjoy.

In this article we will be going through the recipe for making a delicious calzone dish with the low carb pizza mix.

This recipe serves 1 whole calzone.

Ingredients

  • 75gof No Guilt Bakes Low Carb Pizza Mix, (75g makes one base).
  • 75ml lukewarm water.
  • 1 tsp of oil (we prefer olive oil).
  • 75ml lukewarm water.
  • 1/2 cup sausage, cooked.
  • 1/2 red bell pepper.
  • 3 slices of cooked ham.
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste.
  • Lots of cheese! (no need to measure, just add as little or as much as you want)

Equipment

  • 1 rolling pin.
  • 1 pastry brush.
  • 1 tea towel.
  • 1 medium bowl.
  • grease proof paper.

  1. Preparation
  • Turn on the oven to 80°C and allow it to heat up while you are preparing the pizza base.
  • In a medium bowl mix together the 75g of pizza mix, 1 tsp of oil and 75 ml of lukewarm water together until the mixture forms together, add a bit of extra flour if necessary.

  • Once you have prepped the base and it is ready for the oven, turn the oven off and place a tea towel over the dough ball and let it proof for about 30 minutes until the dough has expanded.

  1. Assembly
  • Remove the dough from the oven and form the dough into a ball, place the ball onto a sheet of greaseproof paper and place another sheet of greaseproof paper on top of the ball (to prevent the dough from sticking to the rolling pin) and roll out the mix about 8 inches wide.
  • Remove the top sheet of greaseproof paper and add tomato sauce or paste to your dough.
  • Add your fillings on one side of the calzone to make it easier to fold it over.

  • Add a little butter or milk on the sides of the calzone to help it stick together, fold the calzone over with your greaseproof paper on the side you haven’t filled up and roll over the edges to seal the calzone, brush with almond milk or nut milk, as a keto friendly alternative to regular milk for browning. - (We use lactose free milks in all our recipes because they are lower in carbs).
  • Bake for 25 minutes, at 180°C in a fan oven.
  • Once cooked, serve with a salad or any side dish of your choice and enjoy!

Keto calzone baked and cooked
Total carb counts for the recipe = 15.8g
75g pizza base = 5.6g carbs
Per slice of ham = 0.2g carbs
53g per serving of sausage = 2.2g carbs
100g of low carb  tomato sauce = 3.5g carbs
30g of cheese = 0.6g carbs
(170g) One serving of pepper = 3.7g carbs

Its important to note that it's easy to reduce the carbs on this, you can reduce the amount of peppers ( switch the out for mushrooms, or switch the sausage you use to a version with no binders - which are usually flour etc and so have higher carbs). you can make this work for your diet. and don't forget that's a whole calzone which is made from a 9 inch pizza base so you could have half a calzone with a yummy salad and still feel very full!

We have two sizes of our pizza base mix:
150g packet= 11.25g carbs (per base) / 300g packet =15g carbs (per base)

The 150g Mix gives you 2 pizza bases that are 8 to 9 inches in diameter.

The 300g Mix gives you 4 pizza bases that are 8 - 9 inch pizza bases depending on how flat you want your pizza base.
