The Top 4 Reasons People Choose Keto

The Keto diet is both versatile and easy to follow (there are some key guidelines but the rest is up to you!), which makes it an excellent choice for anyone that may want to put their health and weight first.

In fact, the keto world is so varied that we love finding out more about our clients and their reasons for taking it up in the first place. While its not the exact same, being low carb is also an option for those who are able to see progress on a slightly higher carb count.

Read on the differences between keto and low carb.

Take five to read about the main reasons why people choose keto and what benefits they enjoy when they do.

Keto for Weight Loss

Possibly the most common reason for choosing keto is to lose weight. A low-carb diet is proven to be nearly twice as effective as a low-calorie diet. This is because of ketosis - when your body gets to ketosis then it will start burning fat as its primary action rather than opting to burn glucose first.

The other great reason people choose keto for weight loss is because it keeps you full so that there are no hunger pangs to have to deal with and you still get to enjoy regular and healthy weight loss. Once you've gotten over the dreaded Keto Flu as is the case with most things its becomes easier to follow.

Keto for Diabetes

If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic then keto may be the perfect choice for you! Eating keto provides you with a lower blood sugar level consistently, making it easy for your body to process the small amount of carbs that you so eat.

High-carb diets result in the overproduction of insulin and can cause blood sugar swings that make you feel incredibly hungry without being able to satisfy your need. Keto stops all of these reactions and allows you to enjoy a healthy life. Of course its important to talk to a doctor especially if you are setting out on a low carb or ketogenic diet for medical reasons. [1]

Keto for Epilepsy

If your child has been diagnosed with epilepsy and their body appears to be resisting treatment then keto may be the cure! Many studies have shown that when their keto diet is monitored by doctors, there can be a marked improvement in their seizure rate and overall health.

Are you an adult with epilepsy? It may be able to help you too! There is ongoing research that shows adults who enjoy a keto diet could see their seizures reduced by half when they follow the keto programme. It’s a fascinating finding and goes to prove that keto is far more than just a weight loss support. [2]

Keto for Skin Problems

If you struggle with skin conditions then keto may be the answer! Many people who have recurring issues with their skin have found that following the keto diet gets rid of any issues they are having and clears up their skin in no time.

There is a school of thought that suggests that people who eat a high-carb diet may be allergic to the foods they are eating and so keto not only rids you of those foods but provides you with a more natural diet to follow instead. We have to say that when Maya and I started keto we both felt a real change in the condition of our skin and love how we have kept that perk ever since!

Other Reasons for Keto

There are a whole host of reasons why you should choose keto and so we have added a few more here for you to get an idea of what you can expect when you make this change:

  • Feeling fuller for longer - this is a great reason for keto, especially if you struggle with hunger pangs or find yourself snacking when you get a bit peckish!
  • Reduces bloating - when you reduce the amount of wheat and gluten you will find that your stomach is less bloated, meaning you can look forward to a flatter tummy!
  • It is good for your brain - Many people with conditions such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s find that their brains are unable to use glucose effectively, meaning that by using ketones as fuel, they will be able to enjoy improved brain function.
  • Enjoy more energy - Banish the 3pm slump with keto! Because you are eating less carbs, your blood sugar is kept consistent and this helps your body not to crash in the afternoon.

Improve your mood - Not only does keto stabilize your blood sugar levels but it provides you with improved glycaemic control. This means that you are less like to feel hangry and more likely to feel happier and healthier all day long.
